Free Bet Blackjack is a live blackjack variant where the casino pays for your doubles on hard 9, 10 and 11 and for splits on all pairs except 10-value cards. In return, a dealer 22 pushes all remaining hands except blackjack. Evolution's version has an RTP of 98.45% and can be played for real money in casino apps on mobile.

- Evolution's live version has an RTP of 98.45%
Free Bet Blackjack gives you something every blackjack player dreams of: free doubles and free splits, paid for by the house. The catch is a single rule change, a dealer 22 pushes, that keeps the game balanced. Made famous online by Evolution’s live dealer version, it’s now one of the most popular live blackjack games, and players increasingly look for a Free Bet Blackjack app to play it on mobile for real money.
In this review we explain how Free Bet Blackjack works, the exact rules and RTP, the strategy changes you need and where to play Free Bet Blackjack online.
What is Free Bet Blackjack?
Free Bet Blackjack started as a land-based table game and moved online when Evolution added a live dealer version to its Infinite range in 2019. Like Infinite Blackjack, it offers an unlimited number of seats at a single table, so you never have to wait for a free spot. Every player receives the same starting cards and then makes their own decisions, which keeps the game moving even with thousands of players at the table. Other studios, including Pragmatic Play, have since launched their own live versions with the same core rules.
The idea is simple. In the right situations, the casino puts up the extra bet when you double or split. If that hand wins, you’re paid on the free bet too. If it loses, you only lose your original stake.
Free Bet Blackjack rules
The game follows standard blackjack rules with these key changes:
- Free double down on any two-card hard total of 9, 10 or 11
- Free split on all pairs except 10-value cards (10s, jacks, queens and kings)
- If the dealer busts with exactly 22, all remaining player hands push, except a player blackjack, which still pays
- Blackjack pays 3 to 2
- The live game is dealt from eight decks
- Surrender is not available
You can still double or split with your own money on hands that don’t qualify for a free bet, such as soft totals or a pair of 10s. In Evolution’s version, free doubles are only offered on two-card hard totals, so an ace-eight or ace-nine never qualifies.
Side bets
Evolution’s Free Bet Blackjack offers several optional side bets, including 21+3, Any Pair, Hot 3 and Bust It. Land-based versions often have Push 22 and Pot of Gold instead. Side bets pay more but come with a much higher house edge than the main game, with RTPs in the mid-90s rather than the high-90s.
Free Bet Blackjack RTP
Evolution’s Free Bet Blackjack is listed with an RTP of 98.45% for Free Bet Blackjack with optimal strategy. That’s lower than the roughly 99.3% you’ll find at many standard live blackjack tables, mainly because of the dealer 22 push rule. In practice, the game feels more generous than it is: you’ll get many free bets, but a dealer 22 regularly turns a winning hand into a push.
Free Bet Blackjack strategy
The free bets change basic strategy in a few important ways:
- Always take a free double on hard 9, 10 or 11, whatever the dealer shows
- Always take a free split when it’s offered, except with a pair of 5s, which you play as a free double on 10
- Never take insurance
- Skip the side bets if your goal is the lowest house edge
A dedicated Free Bet Blackjack strategy chart is worth using, especially in the first sessions, because standard charts don’t account for the free bets and the 22 push.
How to play Free Bet Blackjack on your phone
There’s no standalone Free Bet Blackjack app from Evolution. You play it in the live casino section of an online casino, either in the casino’s own app or in your phone’s browser:
- Choose one of the casino apps below and sign up
- Open the live casino and search for Free Bet Blackjack
- Pick a table limit that suits your budget
- Place your bet before the timer runs out and decide on the free bets when they’re offered
Because it’s a live game, you’ll want a stable connection. Free Bet Blackjack demo play isn’t available for the live version, but you can watch a few rounds before you join to get used to the pace.
Where to play Free Bet Blackjack online
You’ll find Free Bet Blackjack at online casinos with a live dealer section from Evolution or Pragmatic Play. Jackpot City uses Evolution for its live casino, and Bovada and Ignition are among the most popular real-money casino apps for US players. Below are the casino apps we recommend for playing Free Bet Blackjack and other live blackjack games.
Mobile experience
Evolution’s live games are built for phones, with large betting areas and clear buttons for free doubles and splits. In portrait mode you see the dealer and your hand at the same time, and the unlimited seats mean you can join any round. The only real requirement is a good Wi-Fi or 4G/5G connection, since the game streams in HD.
Free Bet Blackjack vs other blackjack games
Free Bet Blackjack is ideal if you enjoy the excitement of doubling and splitting without putting extra money on the table. If you want the lowest house edge, Single Deck Blackjack or a good Spanish 21 table is better value. And if you like big bets on strong hands, Power Blackjack lets you double, triple or even quadruple down.
