Key takeaways
  • Free European and American roulette, also offline
  • No real money: chips can't be cashed out
  • 4.5 stars from 281,000+ Google Play reviews
  • French call bets, number statistics and tournaments

Roulette Royale – Grand Casino is one of the oldest roulette apps still in the stores. It first appeared on the App Store in 2011 and has passed 10 million downloads on Google Play, where it holds 4.5 stars from more than 281,000 reviews. The app combines an offline roulette simulator with online multiplayer tables and tournaments. Like all free roulette games, it runs on virtual chips, so there is no real money to win.

It is also one of the smallest roulette apps you can install, at under 40 MB on iPhone.

What Roulette Royale actually is

Roulette Royale is a roulette simulator with two wheels: European roulette with a single zero and American roulette with 0 and 00. You switch between them in the settings. On the European table you can also place the classic French call bets: Voisins du Zéro, Jeu Zéro, Tiers du Cylindre, Orphelins and neighbour bets.

The single-player tables work offline, which makes this a handy app for travel. When you’re connected, you can join multiplayer tables and tournament challenges. The developer is open about one detail: on the iOS listing it says robots play along at the tables to create the feel of an online multiplayer game. Not every seat around you is a real person.

How to play Roulette Royale on your phone

  • Download Roulette Royale – Grand Casino from the App Store or Google Play. It is free and rated 17+.
  • Choose the European or American wheel in the settings.
  • Start at a solo table, or join a multiplayer table or tournament when you’re online.
  • Place chips on the layout or use the French call bets on the European table, then spin.
  • If you run out of chips, the app tops you up with free bonus chips straight away.

What you get in the app

The standout extra is the statistics. Roulette Royale shows the last numbers that came up and full number statistics across your games, plus your personal session stats. It’s a good way to see for yourself that past spins don’t predict the next one: every spin is independent, whatever the hot and cold numbers suggest.

A world-wide and country leaderboard lets you compare your chip count with friends and other players, and a shop sells virtual items. The app also encourages you to try different betting strategies, while noting that a strategy learned in the game doesn’t guarantee success in real-money gambling.

Chips, ads and in-app purchases

Roulette Royale is generous with chips: you get free bonus chips immediately when your balance hits zero, so you never get stuck. Google Play lists the app with ads and in-app purchases, mainly for chip packages and virtual items.

Mobile experience

The graphics are simpler than in Roulettist, but the table is easy to read on any screen size and the app starts quickly. Because it is so small, it also works well on older phones. On iPhone the app has far fewer ratings (around 4,700) than on Android, where most of its players are.

Who Roulette Royale is for

Roulette Royale is a good pick if you want both wheels, the French bets and statistics in a light app that also works offline. It suits players who like to analyse numbers and try out betting systems with play money. If you want polished 3D tables and a large live community, Roulettist is the stronger social app.

Roulette Royale compared with other roulette apps

Against Roulette – Casino Style, Roulette Royale offers more at the roulette table itself: a European wheel, French bets, statistics and multiplayer, in an app that is more than ten times smaller. Roulettist has better graphics and a French wheel with La Partage, but is a much bigger download. Roulette Royale sits in the middle and is the best option for offline play.

Prefer real-money roulette?

Roulette Royale is built for fun, so there are no winnings to withdraw. If you want to play roulette for real money, the casinos below offer American and European roulette plus live dealer tables. They run in your phone’s browser rather than as a downloadable app, so there’s nothing to install. Check that real-money play is available where you live before you sign up, and set a budget before you start.
