- Free Texas Hold'em with live group video chat
- No real money: chips can't be cashed out
- Private tables for you and up to five friends
- 4.7 stars from 62,000+ App Store ratings
Poker Face does one thing differently from every other big poker app: you can see the people you’re playing against. The free Texas Hold’em app from Comunix puts live video chat right on the table, so you can bluff, joke and look for tells the way you would at a real home game. It’s a social game with virtual chips only, so there’s no real money to win and nothing to cash out.
The app launched on iPhone in 2019 and gained a lot of attention during the pandemic lockdowns, when weekly poker nights moved online. It now has more than 5 million downloads on Google Play and one of the highest App Store ratings in the poker category.

What Poker Face actually is
Poker Face is No-Limit Texas Hold’em with a camera feed for each seat. You can open a private table and play with up to five friends, or sit down at public tables with players from around the world. The app notifies you when a friend comes online and is looking for a game, which makes it easy to put a quick session together without planning it in a group chat first.
There’s no Omaha, no collectible bracelets and no Wild West map here. The focus is on the table itself and the people around it. That makes Poker Face less of a grind than apps such as WSOP Poker or Governor of Poker, and more of a digital version of a poker night.
The game is intended for adults and for amusement only. Practising or winning in a social poker game doesn’t mean you’ll succeed at real-money gambling, and the developer says so in its store listing. The App Store rates it 17+.
How to play Poker Face on your phone
Poker Face is a native app on both stores. On iOS it’s built for iPhone only (iOS 13 or later) and isn’t optimised for iPad. Android players can download it from Google Play.
- Install Poker Face from the App Store or Google Play
- Allow camera and microphone access if you want to use video chat
- Invite friends to unlock a welcome bonus of up to 1,000,000 chips
- Open a private table or join a public game
Video is the main attraction, but not every player shows their face all the time, and you can still play if you’d rather stay off camera. On public tables, think twice about what’s visible behind you: you’re on screen with strangers.
Features and mini-games
Beyond the tables, Poker Face adds a handful of extras that hand out chips and keep you coming back:
- Group video chat at every table, free to use
- Private tables for you and up to five friends
- Daily missions with chip rewards
- Lucky Bonus wheel for free chips
- Slotopoker, a mini slot game between hands with two free spins a day
- Bet the Flop, a side bet on the three flop cards that pays up to 23x
- Chip Flip, a quick guess-the-golden-chip game
- VIP program with extra rewards at higher levels
Bet the Flop is a nice touch, because it gives you something to do while you sit out a hand. Still, these extras are casino-style side games, and they burn through chips quickly if you play them too often. The developer says the cards are shuffled randomly, with no room for cheating.
The chip economy and in-app purchases
Poker Face is free to download, with optional in-app purchases for chips. Chips can’t be withdrawn or traded for prizes. Between the welcome bonus, daily missions and the bonus wheel, casual players can keep playing without spending money, especially at private tables where you and your friends set the pace. To avoid surprises on a shared phone, you can turn off in-app purchases in your device settings.
Because the chips are free, the play at public tables tends to be loose. At private tables with friends that matters less: the point is the company, not the bankroll.
Mobile experience
Poker Face is played in portrait mode, which keeps the video tiles large and makes it easy to play with one hand. The download is big for a single-format game, at around 450 MB on iOS, and video chat uses more data and battery than a standard poker app, so Wi-Fi is the better choice for a long session.
Players clearly like it. Poker Face holds 4.7 stars from more than 62,000 ratings on the App Store and 4.5 stars from about 108,000 reviews on Google Play. Several reviewers single out the chance to watch other players for tells, which is exactly what this app is built for.
Poker Face compared with other free poker apps
If you want the biggest player pool and the most formats, Zynga Poker and WSOP Poker offer more. Governor of Poker is the better choice for long-term progression. But for a virtual poker night with friends, nothing in this list comes close to Poker Face.
Prefer real-money poker?
Poker Face is built for fun, so it can’t give you winnings you can withdraw. If that’s what you’re after, Ignition runs one of the best-known poker rooms for US players, with anonymous tables, Hold’em and Omaha cash games and a busy tournament schedule. Bovada offers poker on the same network. Neither has a downloadable poker app: both run in your phone’s browser, so there’s nothing to install. Check that real-money play is available where you live before you sign up.
